Dear Veteran:
The next Blinded Veterans Support Group meeting will be held on Friday, February 24th at 9:00 A.M. at the Hampton VA Medical Center in Building 83. Because of last minute changes there is a possibility in the future that we may at any time have to meet in Building 36 even if we are scheduled to meet in Building 83. If you go to Building 83 and we are not there, you know to go to Building 36. This is a very important meeting. Your attendance is very important. Please be there and please be on time.
I am still trying to get a guest speaker. If I cannot get one, we will have other important business concerning veterans’ and seniors’ needs. So please come enjoy and learn.
Southside residents who require transportation may contact Delores Bethel at home # 757-499-0275 cell # 757-510-1199 for a ride in the van. Leave a message with your name, phone number, and address. For those of you who do ride in the van, there will be a $5.00 charge per person to help defray the cost of paying for the van.

HAMPTON ROADS CHAPTER
OF THE BLINDED VETERANS ASSOCIATION
Hampton Roads Blinded Veterans Meeting June 25, 2010
The meeting was called to order by Robert Byrd at 10:10 am. Lee Jarrett led the Pledge of Allegiance. Pastor Edward Diggs led the group in prayer. Introductions were led by Delores Bethel. Jean McFarlane read April and May minutes. Minutes were accepted as read. Three people were voted in as honorary members. They are Jacqueline Risley, Mary Steel, and Beverly Conway.
Forrest Black requested help from Hampton Roads Blinded Veterans in the form of donations for the National BVA Convention. The group decided to donate by taking a $100.00 full page ad in the convention booklet and $100.00 towards the hospitality room. The funds will be taken from the regional account which leaves $359.00 in that account. Dr. Tucker said her goodbyes to the group. She will continue to work with veterans.
Robert introduced today’s guest speaker Jerry Marindin from Freedom Scientific. He demonstrated the Pearl Reading Solution. It is an OCR camera that works with Openbook. It is now in the Beta stage. The final version will be coming out in the near future. Jerry will send one to Hampton Blinded Veterans to use and test for about 60 to 90 days. He also talked about Magic Dual Monitor. He left documentation on the Pearl, Magic Dual Monitor, and Focus Blue. He did not talk about Focus 40 Blue.
Meeting adjourned at 11:10 am. The picnic began.
Respectfully Submitted,
LT Robert L. Byrd, USN (Ret)
Chapter President
