   HAMPTON ROADS CHAPTER

 OF THE BLINDED VETERANS ASSOCIATION

Hampton Roads Blinded Veterans Meeting June 25, 2010

The meeting was called to order by Robert Byrd at 10:10 am. Lee Jarrett led the Pledge of Allegiance. Pastor Edward Diggs led the group in prayer. Introductions were led by Delores Bethel. Jean McFarlane read April and May minutes. Minutes were accepted as read. Three people were voted in as honorary members. They are Jacqueline Risley, Mary Steel, and Beverly Conway.

Forrest Black requested help from Hampton Roads Blinded Veterans in the form of donations for the National BVA Convention. The group decided to donate by taking a $100.00 full page ad in the convention booklet and $100.00 towards the hospitality room. The funds will be taken from the regional account which leaves $359.00 in that account. Dr. Tucker said her goodbyes to the group. She will continue to work with veterans.

Robert introduced today’s guest speaker Jerry Marindin from Freedom Scientific. He demonstrated the Pearl Reading Solution. It is an OCR camera that works with Openbook. It is now in the Beta stage. The final version will be coming out in the near future. Jerry will send one to Hampton Blinded Veterans to use and test for about 60 to 90 days. He also talked about Magic Dual Monitor. He left documentation on the Pearl, Magic Dual Monitor, and Focus Blue. He did not talk about Focus 40 Blue.

Meeting adjourned at 11:10 am. The picnic began.

Respectfully Submitted,

LT Robert L. Byrd, USN (Ret)

Chapter President
