Dear Veteran:
The next Blinded Veterans Support Group meeting will be held on Friday, February 26th at 9:00 A.M. at the Hampton VA Medical Center in Building 83. This is a very important meeting. Your attendance is very important. Please be there and please be on time.
We will have a guest speaker from the Social Security Administration to talk with us about the Social Security and Medicare changes for 2010, and to answer any other questions concerning social security and Medicare. The speaker is Mr. Earl Johnson, Public Affairs Specialist, who works out of the Norfolk office.
Southside residents who require transportation may contact Delores Bethel at home # 757-427-0729 cell # 757-510-1199 and/or Norman Miller home # 757-480-2080 cell # 757-739-8287 for a ride in the van. Leave a message with your name, phone number, and address.
For those of you who do ride in the van, there will be a $5.00 charge per person to help defray the cost of paying for the van.

Hampton Roads Blinded Veterans Meeting December 18, 2009
The meeting was called to order by Robert Byrd at 10:16 am. Hardy Alexander led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. Elder Ralph Lawton Sr. led the group in prayer. Betty Stump led the group in introductions. November minutes were not read.
Mr. Burch, Associate Director of VAMC and Basil Rowland were guest speakers. Basil was presented with the Hampton Roads Blinded Veterans Honored Circle Award. They wished the group happy holidays and wished the group well in general.
Julia Halpern-Gold explained to the group how to get an appointment to the Low Vision Clinic. Your VA doctor can refer you to the clinic or your civilian doctor can send a report and refer you to the clinic. Mr. Giovanni and Pat Zawasky from Integration Technologies Group, Inc. demonstrated the Far View Portable CCTV and the Smart View Pocket Magnifier. Robert Byrd updated the group about Alvin Sylvester concerning his family’s well being. Betty Stump read a brief history of the late Edward Hazelwood.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:02 am and the Christmas Party began.
