Remove unused programs

Note:  Please obtain training or get experienced help before you attempt to remove programs.  Some programs are important to your computers operation.

Remove unused programs

  1. First, remove programs you don't use anymore. Programs take up space on your computer, and some run in the background without your knowledge. Removing programs you don't use can help restore your computer's performance.  Before you remove any programs please make sure you are experienced in removal of programs as some programs are required for Microsoft XP to work properly.  Please get experienced help or training before attempting to remove any unused programs. Every program installed on your computer takes up space, and some programs slow your computer down (even if you don't use them).

  2. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

  3. Click Add or Remove Programs.

  4. In the Currently installed programs list, click the program that you want to remove. Then, click Remove or Change/Remove.

  5. Follow the instructions that appear to remove your program. Each program has a different process. Restart your computer if prompted.

Note: There may be programs on your computer that you're not directly using but that are important. (Operating system updates are an example.) If you're not sure what a program does, it's wise not to remove it until you're sure it's something you do not need. Some programs cannot be removed from the Add or Remove Programs window.
