President’s Message:
39 members and guests attended the Fall Meeting in Roanoke! The VAMC Salem personnel, those of the Holiday Inn Tanglewood and our vendors were outstanding. We gave away over $600 in door prizes and were still on our way by 3:30 p.m. Although unable to attend, several members contributed to help defray some of the meeting’s cost. A special thank you goes to each of them.
In the business session our Regional Group Treasurer, Skip Sharp, reviewed our financial data and was proud to announce that we are a Regional Group in good standing. We approved donating $250 to the BVA Auxiliary in support of the Scholarship Fund and also allocated up to $500 per chapter in support of blind veterans activities between now and the spring meeting.
Informational items included:
· 2010 National Convention—The Mid-Atlantic Regional Group has filed a tentative bid to host the 65th National Convention.
· Digital talking book machine—The distribution of the new machines will be starting soon. Every veteran should check with his servicing NLS library to insure their records indicate their status as a veteran.
I have extra copies of the handouts for those who might want them. They include packets from RFB&D, EVAS (free copy of Guide) and catalogs from Maxiaids and LS&S. If you would like any of the above, call me (703-521-3745) by December 15.
Our Spring Meeting for 2008 is tentatively scheduled for April 12, so keep that date open. Details to follow.

Speakers—Do you have a subject you think we need a speaker on? Do you know just the right person to discuss that subject? Can you share them with us? If so call me, Pete Davis, 703-521-3745, and I’ll work to set it up.
Blind Etiquette—A handout from Roanoke is attached for your use. It is a good tool when meeting with those who have never dealt with the blind.
BVAA Scholarships—Now is the time for those seeking scholarship assistance to contact Barbara Stockings for application information. The Auxiliary will award over $8,000 in scholarships to the spouses and children of blind veterans. Barbara’s address is: Barbara Stockings, 3809 Coco Grove Avenue, Miami, FL 33133 or call her at 305-446-8008.
Cookbook—The BVAA is compiling a new cookbook as a fundraiser. If you have favorite recipes send them to Barbara Stockings at the above address.
Annual Members—If you are one of the 7 Mid-Atlantic Regional Group’s Members who still pay their dues annually, please consider a Life Membership. It’s inexpensive and adds to the Life Membership Fund, that Fund generated funds this year for our Regional Group totaling over $6,000! For more information, contact Allyson Alt, Membership Manager, at BVA Headquarters, 202-371-8880.
Address Changes—Moving? Down sizing to smaller digs? Send your new address to BVA National Headquarters, 477 H Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20001, Attention: Membership.
On behalf of my family and all of your Regional Officers, let me wish you a very Happy Holiday Season! Take time to do something for another blind veteran.
