OFFICIAL MEETING NOTICE

 

The Mid-Atlantic Regional Group of the BVA will hold its spring meeting for 2008 on Saturday, April 12, at the Holiday Inn Central, 3207 North Boulevard, Richmond, VA.  The room rate is $69 per night available for both Friday and Saturday nights for those who desire to spend either night at the hotel.  The Holiday Inn Central is conveniently located to AMTRAK and Greyhound.  Check with your carrier of choice for schedules.  There will be an informal social gathering Friday evening in the hotel lounge from 7 to 9 p.m.

 

You MUST make your own hotel reservations by March 12 by calling the hotel at 804-359-9441 and refer to the booking code BVA-RG.  Be sure to tell them that you are part of the Blinded Veterans Group to insure getting the $69 rate per night.

 

Please complete the enclosed Registration Form and send it to me in the enclosed self-addressed, free-matter envelope.  There is a registration fee of $10.00 per person.  Make checks payable to Mid-Atlantic Regional Group.  Please indicate on the Registration Form if you need the agenda in Braille.  Registration forms must be postmarked by March 20th as I need to give the hotel a count for lunch.

 

This meeting is called for the following business to be transacted:

1.     Election of officers, all positions

2.     Election of delegates to the 2008 BVA National Convention in Phoenix, AZ

3.     Instruction of Delegates

4.     Consideration of By-Laws changes

5.     Other business as may be brought forth

 

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday morning.  The morning session will include speakers on the new VA Continuum of Care, Audiology and the Blind, and Low-Vision Care at VA.  There will be a buffet lunch served at 12 noon.

 

Following lunch, we will have the business meeting.  As noted above, the afternoon will be full and varied.

Enclosures 1:  Proposed By-Law Change

 

 

PROPOSED BY-LAWS CHANGE

 

The following proposed by-laws change is submitted for the consideration of the members present at the April 12, 2008, Regional Group meeting:

 

Article VI, Section 1, currently reads:

 

The Regional Group shall elect officers each year from among its Members and Associate Members in good standing at a meeting of the membership, and all Members and Associate Members in good standing shall be notified, in writing, in advance for the purpose for which the meeting is called (see Section 4 of Article VI above).

 

Change Section 1 to read:

 

The Regional Group shall elect officers bi-annually for a term of two years from among its Members and Associate Members in good standing at the called meeting, and all Members and Associate Members in good standing shall be notified, in writing, in advance for the purpose for which the meeting is called (see Section 4 of Article VI above).

 

Article VI, Section 3, currently reads:

 

Officers shall serve until their successors are elected or temporary officers are appointed.  In no case, however, shall an officer serve a period exceeding eighteen (18) months without reelection.

 

Change Section 3 to read:

 

Officers shall serve until their successors are elected or temporary officers are appointed.  In no case, however, shall an officer serve a period exceeding thirty (30) months without reelection.
